A heartbreaking incident in Telangana’s Rangareddy district has shocked local residents and left two families devastated. A young couple from Medipalli village in Yacharam mandal died by suicide within two days after their families refused to accept their relationship and approve their marriage.
Tragedy Unfolds in Medipalli Village
The incident occurred in Medipalli village, where Mahesh (20) and a 16-year-old intermediate student were in a relationship for the past four months. The girl was studying second-year intermediate at Karthikeya College in Ibrahimpatnam. According to local sources, both belonged to the same village and had grown close over time.
When their families came to know about the relationship, elders from both sides reportedly opposed the love marriage. As a result, the couple was prevented from meeting each other, which deeply affected them emotionally. Villagers say the opposition created severe mental stress for both youngsters.
Earlier, the couple had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming insecticide when no one was at home. However, they survived that attempt after timely intervention. Despite escaping death once, their emotional distress reportedly continued to grow.
Events That Led to the Double Suicide
On Monday, Mahesh reportedly spoke to the girl over the phone and insisted that she marry him. He allegedly told her that he would end his life if the marriage did not happen. This conversation appears to have deeply disturbed the girl.
On Tuesday, unable to cope with the pressure and emotional pain, the girl died by suicide by hanging herself at her residence. Her death sent shockwaves through the village and plunged her family into grief.
After learning about her death, Mahesh reportedly became inconsolable. On Wednesday, he poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire, dying by suicide. With this, the tragic love story ended, leaving both families shattered and the village in mourning.
Growing Concern Over Youth Suicides
This tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about mental health, family pressure, and the lack of emotional support for young people in love relationships. Locals say that timely counseling and family dialogue might have prevented such a loss of young lives.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths. Officials have urged families to communicate openly with their children and seek professional help during emotional crises.
If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally or having suicidal thoughts, please seek immediate help from a mental health professional or contact a suicide prevention helpline.
