A tragic road accident in Andhra Pradesh has once again raised serious concerns about road safety. Similar to the recent bus accident in Kurnool, another fatal mishap occurred on Friday afternoon at the Galiveedu Ring Road intersection in Rayachoti town of Annamayya district, claiming one life on the spot.
High-Speed Collision at Ring Road Junction
According to preliminary reports, a container vehicle travelling from Madanapalle towards Kadapa rammed into a two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction at high speed. The impact proved severe. The two-wheeler became stuck under the front portion of the container and was dragged for nearly 20 metres along the road.
As the vehicle continued to move, the petrol tank of the two-wheeler burst, triggering a sudden fire. Within moments, flames engulfed the front section of the container, which was carrying an iron load. The incident caused panic among commuters and local residents in the busy junction area.
Rider Dies on the Spot
The two-wheeler rider, identified as Srinivasulu (48), died instantly due to the impact and subsequent fire. Police later confirmed that Srinivasulu belonged to Kancharapalle village in Rayachoti mandal. Locals said he had no chance to escape as the vehicle was trapped under the container.
Soon after receiving information, fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control. However, the front portion of the container was completely burnt by the time the fire was extinguished.
Family Tragedy Deepens
The death has left Srinivasulu’s family devastated. His wife is currently working in a Gulf country for employment, while he had been living with and supporting his three children. Relatives and neighbours gathered at the accident site and later at his residence, expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss.
Police Investigation Underway
City traffic police registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident. Officials are examining factors such as overspeeding and possible negligence. The Circle Inspector stated that further action will follow after reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements.
Safety Concerns Resurface
Local residents compared the Rayachoti accident to the recent Kurnool bus tragedy, noting a worrying pattern of high-speed accidents on major roads. They urged authorities to improve traffic regulation, install warning signs, and enforce speed limits strictly at busy intersections.
As Andhra Pradesh witnesses repeated fatal accidents, the Rayachoti tragedy serves as another grim reminder of the urgent need for stronger road safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
