A major ration scam has come to light in Reddigudem mandal of Andhra Pradesh. Officials found that rice meant for children’s nutrition was allegedly diverted to the black market. During a surprise inspection at the Kasturiba Girls Hostel in Rangapuram, revenue authorities seized 687 kilograms of ration rice. The incident has sparked serious concerns over the misuse of essential supplies.
Surprise Inspection at Kasturiba Girls Hostel
Revenue officials conducted a sudden raid at the Kasturiba hostel in Rangapuram village of NTR district. During the inspection, they reportedly found large quantities of rice stored illegally. Authorities suspect that the rice, which was meant for hostel students, was being diverted for sale outside the system.
Officials identified the hostel Special Officer, Shyamala, in connection with the alleged diversion. The team immediately seized 687 kg of ration rice from the premises. The action followed specific inputs about irregularities in food stock management.
Report to Be Submitted to the Collector
Reddigudem MRO Sushila Devi stated that officials would submit a detailed report to the District Collector. She confirmed that the seized rice was part of government supplies intended for children’s welfare. Moreover, she assured that strict action would follow if the allegations are proven.
Because ration supplies support underprivileged students, any diversion directly affects their nutrition and health. Therefore, the administration has treated the matter seriously.
Media Entry Denied Raises Questions
During the inspection, officials did not allow media personnel inside the hostel premises. They cited restrictions related to entering a girls’ hostel. However, this decision has raised doubts among locals. Many question why the media was restricted during such an important operation.
