Revanth Reddy Vows Congress Dominance, Announces Direct Funds for Panchayats
Mahabubnagar / Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday made strong political assertions while unveiling major development assurances for village panchayats across the state. Addressing a felicitation ceremony for sarpanches of the Kodangal constituency in Kosgi, Narayanpet district, he declared that as long as he remains active in politics, former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the Kalvakuntla family would not return to power.
Congress Targets Two-Thirds Majority in 2029
Revanth Reddy said the Congress would return to power in the 2029 Assembly elections with a two-thirds majority. He predicted over 80 seats if the House remains at 119 and more than 100 seats if it expands to 153. Calling on political rivals to face debates in the Assembly, he said the future of Telangana belongs to Congress, not to “threats or intimidation.”
Direct Development Funds for Villages
In a major boost to grassroots governance, the Chief Minister announced special development grants for all gram panchayats. Small villages will receive Rs. 5 lakh, while major panchayats will get Rs. 10 lakh. He said the funds would be released directly to sarpanches from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, in addition to Central and State allocations. Revanth Reddy also took responsibility for mobilising Rs. 3,000 crore from the Centre to support rural development.
Call for Non-Partisan Village Governance
Urging sarpanches to rise above party politics, the Chief Minister asked all 12,706 sarpanches in Telangana to focus solely on development. He stressed that welfare benefits must reach every eligible household and asked local leaders to flag gaps to the government.
Criticism of Past Regime and Welfare Push
Revanth Reddy accused the previous government of neglecting Palamuru irrigation projects despite massive personal wealth accumulation by its leaders. He also highlighted welfare initiatives, including farmer insurance worth Rs. 9,000 crore, free RTC bus travel for women, Indiramma housing, and the introduction of breakfast for schoolchildren from the next academic year.
Hope for Financial Relief to Panchayats
The announcement of special grants has raised hopes among panchayat representatives, who have faced severe financial stress due to delayed Finance Commission funds. Many believe the new allocations will help meet urgent needs such as sanitation, drinking water, street lighting, and staff support.
