Telangana Chief Minister and former TPCC president Revanth Reddy faced a legal setback in the state High Court. The court dismissed his petition seeking to quash criminal cases registered against him. The judges also postponed the next hearing in the matter to the 21st of this month.
The case relates to remarks made by Revanth Reddy during the 2023 Assembly election campaign. While addressing a public meeting in Bhupalpally, he allegedly made objectionable comments against former MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy. Following the speech, Gandra approached the police, claiming that the remarks damaged his reputation.
Court Finds Grounds to Continue Trial
Based on the complaint, the police registered criminal cases against Revanth Reddy. Recently, he approached the High Court, requesting dismissal of the cases. His legal team argued that the complaints were politically motivated and filed to target him during elections.
The High Court examined the material placed on record and rejected the argument. The judges stated that the case had already reached the trial stage. They made it clear that the court could not quash the proceedings at this point. With the petition dismissed, the focus has now shifted to the hearing scheduled for February 21.
The development has drawn attention in political circles, as the court’s next move is expected to carry significance for the ongoing legal battle involving the Chief Minister.
