The state police department has intensified its crackdown on violent crimes to maintain peace and public safety. As a result, authorities opened a significantly higher number of suspect and history sheets in 2025 compared to the previous year. Police officials say impulsive attacks, street fights, and group clashes have increased, especially among youth influenced by movies and web series. Even minor disputes now often turn violent, sometimes with fatal consequences.

Incidents of students forming gangs and assaulting classmates in the name of ragging have also become frequent. Road rage cases, wrong-side driving arguments, and neighborhood parking disputes increasingly end in physical attacks. Police warn that inaction in such cases emboldens offenders, who later escalate to threats, organized violence, and even contract killings. Keeping this risk in mind, the department adopted a strict approach in 2025. During the year, police opened 5,348 history sheets and 4,359 suspect sheets against individuals involved in repeated crimes.

What a Suspect or Rowdy Sheet Means

Police first open a suspect sheet when they notice repeated criminal behavior. From that point, officers closely monitor the individual and question them whenever crimes occur in the area. If the person shows no improvement, police upgrade the record to a history sheet, commonly known as a rowdy sheet.

Once authorities open a rowdy sheet, the individual must regularly report to the local police station. During any law and order issue, police often detain history-sheeters as a preventive step. Officers also impose movement and activity restrictions to prevent further violence.

Gang Files and Preventive Policing

In several regions, police have identified gangs involved in clashes linked to political rivalry, land disputes, and financial conflicts. In such cases, officials open gang files against all members to curb organized violence early.

Senior officers stress that these measures aim to deter crime, reform offenders, and protect innocent citizens. Police urge the public, especially youth, to avoid violence and resolve disputes legally to prevent long-term consequences.
