Diarrhoea cases have triggered alarm in Srikakulam district headquarters after 76 infections were reported within three days. Responding swiftly, N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted two separate review meetings with district officials and directed them to intensify preventive measures. Authorities confirmed that patients are receiving treatment in both government and private hospitals across the town.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on containment steps, medical response, and sanitation drives. Meanwhile, District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar deployed special teams to monitor affected localities and prevent further spread. Health workers are conducting door-to-door surveys, chlorinating water sources, and spreading awareness about hygiene practices.
One Death Confirmed, ₹10 Lakh Ex-Gratia Announced
Doctors confirmed that 43-year-old Mandala Suresh from Mangavarithota Ramnagar succumbed to complications linked to severe diarrhoea. He had been admitted to the Government General Hospital in Srikakulam on Monday. Hospital authorities stated that his condition appeared stable initially. However, his health deteriorated early Tuesday morning due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, leading to his death.
Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Srikakulam MLA Gundu Shankar handed over ₹10 lakh financial assistance to the bereaved family on Tuesday night. The deceased is survived by his wife and two children. Another death has been reported in the town, although officials have not yet confirmed whether it was caused by diarrhoea or other health complications.
Leaders Visit Affected Areas
After attending Assembly sessions, MLA Gundu Shankar reached Srikakulam at 11 PM and immediately visited families affected by diarrhoea symptoms. In addition, former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao is scheduled to tour Dammalaveedhi, Kaki Veedhi, Bodemma Kovela Street, Soranggadala Veedhi, Mangavarithota, and Ramnagar to assess the ground situation.
Health authorities continue surveillance in vulnerable neighbourhoods. They have urged residents to consume boiled water and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear. With coordinated action from the administration and medical teams, officials aim to bring the situation under control swiftly and prevent further loss of life.
