Senior IPS officer M. Sunil Naik appeared at the CCS police station in Guntur for questioning in the custodial torture case linked to Deputy Speaker K. Raghurama Krishnam Raju. Authorities began the investigation following orders from the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Officials scheduled the interrogation for five days. According to the court’s directions, Sunil Naik must cooperate with the investigation and appear before the probe officer every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Five-Day Interrogation Ordered by High Court

The court instructed the officer to attend questioning from the 5th to the 9th of this month. Investigators will question him regarding allegations that surfaced when Raghurama Krishnam Raju was in custody.

The case relates to events that occurred when Raghurama Krishnam Raju served as the Member of Parliament from Narasapuram. Authorities arrested him in May 2021 at his residence in Hyderabad and later moved him to the CID regional office in Guntur. Investigators claim that the alleged custodial torture took place during that period.

Sunil Naik Named as Accused in the Case

During the investigation, officials found that Sunil Naik, who worked as a DIG in the CID at that time, visited the Guntur CID regional office several times on the night of the arrest. Because of this development, investigators listed him as the seventh accused (A-7) in the case.

Authorities issued multiple notices asking him to appear for questioning earlier. However, he did not attend those sessions. Police later detained him in Patna, Bihar. Despite the detention, officers could not bring him to Andhra Pradesh because they did not obtain a transit warrant.

Court Orders Lead to Current Probe

After these developments, Sunil Naik approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The court allowed relief but directed him to cooperate with the investigation. As a result, he must now attend the questioning sessions in Guntur.

The investigation team is led by A. R. Damodar, the Superintendent of Police from Vizianagaram. Officials expect the five-day interrogation to clarify several key aspects of the case.

Meanwhile, the high-profile probe has drawn significant political and public attention across the state, as it involves senior police officials and a prominent political leader.
