A major controversy has rocked Bangladesh cricket after a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) member made sharp remarks against former captain Tamim Iqbal. The issue surfaced amid debate over Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh declines to play in India
The T20 World Cup will take place from March 7 to 8, with India and Sri Lanka as hosts. However, the BCB informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Bangladesh team will not play its matches in India. The board cited security concerns and requested a neutral venue instead. This decision triggered strong reactions within cricket circles.
Tamim urges careful thinking
Tamim Iqbal reacted to the development and urged the board to think carefully. He said the BCB earns nearly 90 to 95 percent of its income from the ICC. Therefore, he stressed that officials should consider the future before taking such decisions.
Tamim also clarified that he does not hold any official role in cricket now. He said he learned about the issue through media reports like any other citizen. Even so, he warned that public decisions are hard to reverse once announced. He called for internal discussions before final calls.
Nazmul Islam hits back
BCB member Nazmul Islam responded strongly to Tamim’s comments. He accused Tamim of working in India’s interest and branded him an “Indian agent.” His remarks escalated the row and drew sharp reactions from fans and analysts.
Debate intensifies
The controversy has divided opinions in Bangladesh cricket. Some support Tamim’s call for caution and dialogue. Others back the board’s stand and criticize his public comments.
With the T20 World Cup nearing, attention now turns to the ICC’s response and whether this dispute will affect Bangladesh’s preparations.
