After the Telangana Municipal Elections, several losing candidates are demanding that voters return the cash, gifts, and other incentives they had distributed before polling. These candidates have started going door-to-door across multiple districts to reclaim the items.
In Muuchinthalapalli (Medchal Malkajgiri district), Mancherial, and Bhuvanagiri (Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district), defeated candidates personally visit homes asking for cash, sarees, alcohol, and “hot boxes” back. Residents have reported feeling uneasy about these demands.
In Mancherial Municipal Corporation’s 9th ward, a candidate is checking which voters supported them and asking specifically for gifts from those who did not vote in their favour.
Similarly, in the Ponnala ward of Muuchinthalapalli and the 1st ward of Bhuvanagiri, defeated candidates are actively collecting the distributed items. These door-to-door efforts have sparked tension and raised questions about the legality and ethics of such practices.
Election authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent harassment or intimidation. Meanwhile, voters warn that such actions may create discomfort and unrest in the communities.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about pre-election cash and gift distributions in Telangana. Experts suggest stricter oversight and enforcement of election conduct rules to prevent similar situations in future elections.
