The Telangana High Court in Hyderabad reacted strongly to the ticket price hike granted for the film Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu. Right at the outset, the court expressed displeasure over how the issue was handled. It moved to initiate contempt proceedings against the Special Chief Secretary of the Home Department after learning that the relevant ticket hike orders were not properly brought to its notice. The matter has since sparked discussion within government circles and the film industry.
The issue reached the court when advocate Vijay Gopal challenged the permission given to increase ticket prices. During the hearing, it became clear that the government side failed to inform the court about the specific orders related to the movie. This lapse drew sharp remarks from the bench. The judges said senior officials must act responsibly, especially in matters already under judicial scrutiny.
At the same time, the High Court laid down a clear guideline for the future. It directed the Home Department to issue any ticket price hike orders at least 90 days in advance. The court said this would avoid confusion and last-minute approvals. The direction is likely to bring more clarity and discipline to ticket pricing decisions in Telangana.
