The Telangana State Election Commission is set to release the municipal election notification today, signalling the start of the election process across the state. Elections will be held for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations as part of the second general civic polls. The Election Commission has completed most preparations and is expected to announce the schedule later in the day.
Ahead of the announcement, the State Election Commission has called a high-level meeting at its headquarters. Officials from all key departments will attend the meeting to finalise arrangements. The SEC will also hold discussions with district collectors, superintendents of police, and police commissioners this morning to review law and order and polling preparedness.
Schedule Expected After Key Meetings
Later in the day, the State Election Commission will meet Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to complete final consultations. Sources said the election schedule will be released in the evening unless an unexpected issue arises. Government officials confirmed that all arrangements for conducting the elections are already in place.
Voter lists have been finalised and printed. Polling stations and ballot boxes are ready. The Election Commission has also issued guidelines and rules to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections across all urban local bodies.
Polling Likely on February 11
The state government has directed that the entire municipal election process be completed by February 15. Based on this timeline, district collectors have suggested February 11 as the most suitable date for polling. If voting takes place on February 11, counting of votes is expected to conclude by February 13.
With the model code of conduct expected to come into force soon, ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives across Telangana have rushed to complete development-related programmes. In recent days, leaders inaugurated projects, laid foundation stones, and completed welfare distributions such as saree supply and interest-free loans.
The release of the election notification will officially mark the beginning of the municipal election battle in Telangana, setting the stage for intense political activity across urban areas in the coming weeks.
