The State Election Commission has enforced the election code across Telangana. The commission released the schedule for municipal elections covering the entire state.
Elections will take place in seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities. The commission will conduct polling in a single phase on February 11. Officials will count the votes on February 13.
State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini held a meeting with district collectors, SPs, and police commissioners. After the review, she announced the election programme.
If officials find the need for repolling at any location, they will conduct it on February 12. However, vote counting will continue as planned on February 13.
The commission confirmed that elections for mayors and deputy mayors in corporations will take place on February 16. The same day, municipalities will elect chairpersons and vice-chairpersons.
According to the Election Commission, 52.43 lakh voters will participate in the municipal polls. The nomination process will begin on January 28. Candidates must submit nominations by January 30.
Officials will scrutinise nominations on January 31. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until February 3.
The elections will cover 2,996 wards across Telangana. Authorities have set up 8,203 polling stations to ensure smooth voting. Officials have also arranged 136 counting centres for vote counting.
With the election code now in force, political activity has intensified across the state.
