The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to conduct elections for vacant Rajya Sabha seats across ten states. A total of 37 seats will fall vacant, and the ECI has scheduled the polling on March 16, 2026, to fill these positions.
Telangana Rajya Sabha Seats Vacancy
In Telangana, two Rajya Sabha seats will become vacant on April 9, 2026. The terms of BRS MP K.R. Suresh Reddy and Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi are coming to an end. To fill these seats, the ECI is expected to issue notifications today.
The nomination process will begin immediately, with a deadline set for March 5. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 6, followed by an opportunity for withdrawal on March 9. The final polling, if required, will occur on March 16.
Likely Party Allocation
Due to the party’s strength in Telangana, both seats are likely to go to the Congress party. Reports suggest that one seat may be allotted again to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, while the other will be decided after consultations among senior party leaders.
Several senior leaders are currently in Delhi, meeting with AICC officials to secure the remaining seat. At the same time, others are lobbying with the Telangana Chief Minister and TPCC president to gain support.
Potential Contenders
Chinna Reddy, a senior leader, has already met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge seeking a Rajya Sabha seat.
Kodand Reddy, chairman of the Farmer Commission, is expected to approach the CM and TPCC president for consideration.
Former MPs V.H. and Jetty Kusuma Kumar are also eyeing the post based on social representation and party service.
Justice Sudarshan Reddy, who contested the recent vice-presidential election representing the India coalition, is reportedly on the list.
Government advisors like Vem Narendra Reddy, Shabbir Ali, and Harkar Venugopal are also under consideration.
ST quota candidates such as Bellayya Nayak and senior leader Jeevan Reddy, along with former MP Madhuyashki Goud, remain hopeful.
Party insiders indicate that last-minute names could also emerge as the final list is prepared.
With the elections approaching, Telangana’s political circles are abuzz as contenders position themselves for the upcoming Rajya Sabha vacancies.
