Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking and tragic incident, 65-year-old senior umpire Manik Gupta lost his life after a sudden bee attack during a local cricket match in Unnao district. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, February 18, at the Sapru Ground in Shuklaganj.
Incident Details
Manik Gupta, a veteran umpire from Kanpur, was officiating a cricket match when a swarm of bees unexpectedly attacked players and officials on the field. The attack left everyone startled and struggling to protect themselves from the aggressive insects.
Severity of the Attack
The swarm was so dangerous that even while being transported to the hospital, bees clung to Gupta’s face and body. The intensity of the stings caused him to lose consciousness right on the field.
Death Confirmed
He was first rushed to a private hospital and then transferred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed that he had already passed away upon arrival.
Other Victims
In addition to Gupta, another umpire and approximately 20 players were stung. Several of them are undergoing treatment for injuries, with some in critical condition.
This sudden natural incident has sent shockwaves through the local cricket community. Officials are urging greater safety measures for outdoor sports events to prevent such tragedies in the future.
