A horrific crime has come to light from Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly strangled his wife to death after suspecting her of secretly using a mobile phone. He later buried her body in the backyard of their house and tried to mislead police by claiming she had died by suicide.
According to police officials, the accused, Arjun, works as a daily wage labourer in Ludhiana. He returned to his native place in Gorakhpur on December 21. Soon after reaching home, he reportedly noticed his wife Khushboo using a mobile phone in secret. This led to a heated argument between the couple.
Murder After Heated Argument
During the argument, Arjun allegedly accused Khushboo of having an extramarital relationship. In a fit of rage, he strangled her to death. To destroy evidence, he dug a six-foot-deep pit behind his house and buried her body along with a folding cot.
After committing the crime, Arjun told family members that Khushboo had left the house without informing anyone. However, when days passed without any contact from her, suspicion began to grow.
Attempt to Mislead Police
Khushboo’s father, suspecting foul play, filed a complaint with the police. During interrogation, Arjun initially claimed that his wife had committed suicide and that he had thrown her body into a nearby river. He even took police personnel to the riverbank and tried to divert the investigation for several hours.
When the search in the river yielded no results, police intensified the questioning. Under sustained interrogation, Arjun finally confessed to the murder.
Body Recovered From Backyard
Based on the accused’s confession, police conducted a search behind the house and recovered Khushboo’s body from the buried pit. Gorakhpur Circle Officer Shilpa Kumari confirmed the recovery and stated that preliminary investigation points to suspicion of an illicit relationship as the motive behind the murder.
Police have arrested the accused and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The couple had been married for two years and had no children. Further investigation is underway.
