Earlier known as VT15, the film marks Varun Tej’s first collaboration with director Merlapaka Gandhi. Moreover, First Frame Entertainments is producing the project on a grand scale. As expected, the birthday reveal turned into a celebration for fans.
The released title glimpse quickly raised curiosity. It begins with Korean police interrogating and torturing an Indian photographer while searching for a man named Kanakaraju. Soon after, the narrative takes a shocking turn. On a full moon night, Kanakaraju, played by Varun Tej, enters a police station in a mysterious and possessed state. Armed with a samurai sword, he attacks the officers, delivering a visually intense sequence.
Interestingly, the glimpse ends on a gripping note. Varun Tej delivers a powerful dialogue in Korean, saying, “I am back.” Immediately after, the photographer’s line, “This Kanakaraju is not the Kanakaraju we know,” adds suspense and deepens the mystery.
Meanwhile, the film is shaping up as an Indo-Korean horror comedy, a rare genre in Telugu cinema. Because of this fresh concept, expectations have remained high since the announcement. Music director S. Thaman is composing the soundtrack, while Paneer Selvam is handling the art direction.
So far, the team has completed key shooting schedules in Hyderabad, Anantapur, and South Korea. Finally, the makers plan a theatrical release in summer 2026.
With a unique storyline, international backdrop, and Varun Tej in a striking new avatar, ‘Korean Kanakaraju’ is emerging as one of the most awaited Telugu films in the coming years.
