The Vijay Hazare Trophy witnessed a thrilling day of high-scoring matches and standout individual performances as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Kerala registered impressive victories across venues on Tuesday.
Iyer’s Captain’s Knock Powers Mumbai
Stand-in captain Shreyas Iyer delivered a match-winning performance as Mumbai edged past Himachal Pradesh by seven runs in a rain-curtailed 33-over contest at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur.
Walking in at a difficult stage with Mumbai struggling at 55 for 2, Iyer steadied the innings with authority. He smashed 82 off just 54 balls, striking 10 fours and three sixes. Iyer first added 82 runs with Musheer Khan, who scored a fluent 73, and later stitched a crucial 65-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai eventually posted 299 for 9, despite the delayed start due to dense fog.
Shivam Dubey Seals the Thriller
Defending 10 runs in the final over, Shivam Dubey held his nerve and picked up the last two wickets. Himachal Pradesh were bowled out for 292 in 32.4 overs, falling short by seven runs. Dubey finished with 4 for 68, while Sairaj Patil claimed two wickets.
Despite early setbacks, Himachal Pradesh fought hard through Pukhraj Mann (64), Ankush Bains (53), and Mayank Dagar (64), but Mumbai’s disciplined bowling sealed the contest.
Siraj Stars as Hyderabad Register First Win
Hyderabad opened their account in the tournament with a commanding 107-run victory over Bengal. The win was built on Aman Rao’s double century and a fiery bowling spell from Mohammed Siraj, who picked up four wickets. Bengal’s Shahbaz Ahmed scored a valiant century, but the chase never gained momentum.
Delhi, Karnataka Dominate
In Bengaluru, Delhi secured a comfortable six-wicket win over Railways, led by Priyansh Arya’s explosive 80 off 41 balls. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Rana provided brisk support to finish the chase with ease.
Meanwhile, Karnataka demolished Rajasthan by 150 runs after piling up 324 for 7. Mayank Agarwal (100) and Devdutt Padikkal (91) laid the foundation, while Prasidh Krishna’s five-wicket haul crushed Rajasthan’s batting line-up.
Gujarat, Kerala Post Big Wins
Gujarat delivered the most dominant performance of the day, thrashing Odisha by 233 runs. Axar Patel’s 73, half-centuries from Urvil Patel and Ahaan Poddar, and C.T. Gaja’s six wickets highlighted their all-round show.
Kerala also impressed while chasing, with Vishnu Vinod’s sensational 162 guiding them past Pondicherry’s 248-run target. Baba Aparajith added a calm 63 not out to complete the chase.
Punjab Stay on Track
Punjab chased down 212 against Goa with ease, thanks to a match-defining 131-run partnership between Harnoor Singh (94)* and Naman Dhir (68), despite Shubman Gill’s continued lean patch.
The action-packed day underlined the competitive depth of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with several teams showcasing both batting firepower and bowling discipline as the tournament gathers momentum.
