The release of Tamil actor Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been delayed after the Supreme Court declined to grant relief to the producers. The court refused to stay the Madras High Court order that halted the issuance of the censor certificate.
KVN Productions approached the Supreme Court after the Madras High Court imposed a stay on the certification process. However, the apex court dismissed the petition and advised the producers to move the Madras High Court Division Bench for further action.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court directed the Division Bench to hear the matter on January 20 and pass an appropriate order. Due to the ongoing legal issue, the makers postponed the planned theatrical release scheduled for January 9.
During the hearing, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued on behalf of the producers. He stated that the delay caused heavy financial losses and disrupted promotional plans. He also stressed that uncertainty over certification hurt the film’s commercial prospects.
The Supreme Court, however, questioned the urgency shown by the producers. The bench asked why adequate time was not given to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to submit its response before the High Court. In response, the producers requested a time-bound decision to avoid further losses.
As a result, the future of Jana Nayagan now depends on the Madras High Court Division Bench ruling. Until the court clears the issue and grants certification, the film’s release date remains uncertain.
