Vijayawada: The Vijayawada city police have imposed strict restrictions ahead of New Year celebrations to maintain law and order. City Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu announced the measures and warned of strict action against violations.
Flyovers to Remain Closed at Night
Firstly, the police will close all flyovers in the city during night hours. This includes major flyovers such as Benz Circle and Kanakadurga Flyover. These restrictions will come into force on the night of December 31 and will remain applicable until January 13.
Ban on Road Celebrations
Meanwhile, the police have imposed a complete ban on cake cutting, bursting firecrackers, and group gatherings on public roads. According to the Commissioner, celebrations on roads pose safety risks and disturb public order.
Strict Action Against Drunk Driving and Stunts
In addition, the police will conduct special drunk driving checks across the city. The Commissioner warned that anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol will face legal action.
Moreover, the police will closely monitor bike stunts, high-speed driving, triple riding, and vehicles with modified silencers. Authorities will register cases against violators without leniency.
Police Appeal to Citizens
Finally, CP Rajasekhar Babu urged citizens to cooperate with the police. He advised people to celebrate the New Year peacefully at home and avoid risky behaviour in public places.
Overall, the police said these measures aim to ensure public safety and a peaceful New Year in Vijayawada.
