Visakhapatnam Railway Station has taken a major step toward smart security by deploying a robot cop for the first time in Indian Railways. Officials launched the advanced robot into service to strengthen passenger safety and improve surveillance across the busy station.
RPF Inspector General Alok Bohra and Waltair Division DRM Lalit Bohra formally inaugurated the robot cop. Soon after the launch, the robot began active patrol duties across key areas of the station.
Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, the robot continuously monitors passenger movement. It identifies suspicious behaviour and helps railway police track repeat offenders. Moreover, the robot captures images of individuals involved in theft-related activities, making identification easier for security teams.
In addition, the robot alerts passengers during heavy crowd situations. By issuing warnings and guidance, it helps prevent stampede-like conditions and improves crowd control. Officials stated that the system responds quickly to unusual incidents, ensuring faster action when required.
A Visakhapatnam-based company developed the robot, highlighting the city’s growing role in technology innovation. Railway police named the robot “ASP Arjun,” symbolising strength and vigilance. Engineers programmed it to react instantly to emergencies and support on-ground police personnel.
Overall, the introduction of the robot cop marks a significant upgrade in railway security. Officials believe this initiative will enhance passenger confidence and set a model for other major stations across the country.
