The cold wave has intensified across the Telugu states, with the Meteorological Department issuing a big alert for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to officials, minimum temperatures are likely to fall to single digits in several districts, while cold winds will continue for the next two to three days.
Although sunshine is visible during daytime, the weather turns severely cold by evening, causing discomfort to residents. Night temperatures are dropping well below normal levels, especially in agency and rural areas, where people are struggling to cope with the biting cold.
Severe Cold Conditions in Telangana
Cold winds blowing from the eastern and northeastern directions have increased chill levels across Telangana. Districts including Hyderabad, Adilabad, Medak, Warangal, Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Vinukonda, Khammam, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad are witnessing sharp drops in temperatures.
In several places, minimum temperatures are 2 to 3 degrees below normal, prompting officials to issue a yellow alert. Sangareddy district’s Kohir recorded the lowest temperature at 6.4°C. Morning fog is also affecting daily activities, with visibility remaining low even after 9 a.m.
Andhra Pradesh Also Under Cold Grip
Meanwhile, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are experiencing similar cold conditions. In Visakhapatnam agency areas such as Araku, Paderu, and Chintapalli, temperatures have dropped significantly.
Araku recorded 5°C, while Minumuluru registered 6°C, making these regions among the coldest in the state. The weather department predicts that temperatures in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema may fall by another 2 to 4 degrees over the next two days.
Advisory Issued for Public Safety
Authorities have advised people to remain alert, especially children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to cold-related health issues. Officials recommend wearing warm clothing, avoiding early morning and late-night exposure, and stepping outdoors only when necessary.
The Meteorological Department stated that cold conditions are likely to persist, urging residents to follow safety guidelines until temperatures stabilize.
