A shocking incident has once again highlighted the rising violence in the occupied West Bank. Masked Israeli settlers brutally attacked a 67-year-old Palestinian man, Basim Saleh Yasin, leaving him seriously injured. A video of the assault has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and concern.
Attack at a Nursery
According to reports, the attack took place at a nursery run under a German-Palestinian partnership. A group of settlers wearing masks reportedly stormed the premises. As a result, other workers fled the area in fear. However, Yasin, who is deaf, remained at the site as he could not hear warnings from others.
Brutal Assault Caught on Camera
When Yasin tried to escape, the attackers surrounded him. They beat him repeatedly with sticks and subjected him to severe physical torture. In the disturbing video, one settler is seen kicking Yasin in the head, which caused him to collapse unconscious.
Doctors later confirmed that Yasin suffered serious injuries to his face, chest, and back. Moreover, the assault left both his arms fractured, indicating the severity of the attack.
Growing Settler Violence
Meanwhile, attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank have increased steadily in recent years. More than 500,000 Jewish settlers currently live in the region, which has remained under Israeli occupation since the 1967 war. Although international law considers these settlements illegal, the Israeli government has recently approved 19 new ones.
Rising Tensions in the Region
In addition, Israel has given final clearance to controversial construction projects near Jerusalem. Critics warn that these developments could split the West Bank into two parts. While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied that such actions promote extremism, Palestinians argue that violence against them has become routine.
Overall, the attack on Basim Saleh Yasin has renewed global attention on the worsening security situation in the West Bank and the growing vulnerability of civilians amid ongoing tensions.
