India’s leading IT services company Wipro has announced stricter norms for its hybrid work model, signalling a gradual shift toward increased office presence. The move comes as several technology firms across the country roll back work-from-home relaxations introduced during the pandemic.
Mandatory Office Presence Three Days a Week
Under the revised policy, Wipro employees must attend the office at least three days a week. On these office days, staff are required to spend a minimum of six hours on campus, calculated from swipe-in to swipe-out time. Employees can complete the remaining working hours from home if needed.
The company has made it clear that failure to comply with the attendance norms may impact leave eligibility, underlining a tougher approach to policy enforcement.
Remote Work Days Reduced
Wipro has also reduced the number of remote work days allowed in special circumstances. Earlier, employees could avail up to 15 remote work days per year for reasons such as illness or family care. This has now been cut down to 12 days annually.
The company says the revised policy aims to improve collaboration, productivity, and team engagement by encouraging a stronger office culture.
Mixed Reactions from Employees
The decision has triggered mixed reactions among employees. Some welcome the return to in-person work, saying it helps with better coordination, learning, and team bonding. Others, however, have raised concerns over increased commuting time, traffic congestion, and challenges in balancing personal and professional responsibilities.
As major IT firms continue to recalibrate their work models, Wipro’s move reflects a broader industry trend toward structured hybrid work, with a stronger emphasis on physical office presence.
