A tragic incident at Navjeevan Hospital in Baskhari, Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, claimed the life of 28-year-old Priyanka. She was admitted to the hospital on February 5 for delivery. Priyanka successfully gave birth to a baby girl, but she suffered severe bleeding after the C-section. As her condition worsened, hospital staff tried to transport her to a hospital in Lucknow, but she died en route.
Unqualified Individuals Performed the Surgery
Two unqualified individuals performed the C-section:
Yogesh Varma (32) – an Arts graduate (BA) who learned some medical procedures while assisting his father, a ward boy in a government hospital.
Shubham Vishwakarma (19) – an Intermediate student with no formal medical training.
Investigators confirmed that neither had the qualifications to perform surgery, putting Priyanka’s life at serious risk.
Illegal Operations at Navjeevan Hospital
Authorities discovered that Navjeevan Hospital had operated illegally for five years without proper registration. The facility targeted low-income families, offering C-sections at extremely low rates of ₹3,000 to ₹5,000. Many patients were unaware of the hospital’s illegal status.
Additionally, officials warned that unlicensed medical facilities endanger lives and exploit vulnerable communities.
Legal Action and Arrests
Following protests from Priyanka’s family, police acted immediately:
They sealed the hospital and launched a formal investigation.
Yogesh Varma and Shubham Vishwakarma were arrested for their roles in the surgery.
Authorities registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), covering culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The hospital manager, Ruby, is currently absconding, and police are actively searching for her.
This incident has sparked outrage across Uttar Pradesh. Officials are urging stricter regulation of private healthcare facilities, especially those serving low-income families. Meanwhile, the investigation continues, and authorities hope to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
