Wonderla and Imagica Projects to Boost Andhra Pradesh Tourism
Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a major transformation in its tourism sector with two large theme park projects. Wonderla will establish a 50-acre amusement park in Visakhapatnam, while Imagica World plans a 20-acre project in Tirupati. These developments aim to strengthen tourism and generate employment across the state.
Major Investments Across the State
At the Collectors’ Conference in Amaravati, Principal Secretary (Tourism) Ajay Jain outlined the sector’s progress and future plans. He said the state signed 209 tourism-related MoUs across 26 districts during the Visakhapatnam Summit. These projects together attracted investments worth ₹28,977 crore.
Visakhapatnam emerged as the top destination with 66 proposals valued at ₹11,092 crore. Tirupati followed with 27 proposals worth ₹5,321 crore. Guntur, including Amaravati, secured 17 proposals totaling ₹3,960 crore.
Projects Already Underway
Out of the approved proposals, 27 projects have already commenced construction. These projects involve investments of ₹5,820 crore. They will add 4,597 new hotel rooms across the state. Additionally, they will create 10,645 direct jobs and nearly 18,030 indirect employment opportunities.
Visakhapatnam continues to lead with nine new hotel projects. These will add 1,880 rooms and involve investments of ₹2,916.47 crore. Tirupati will gain six hotel projects, adding 1,003 rooms with investments of ₹1,123 crore.
Government Support for Tourism Development
Ajay Jain acknowledged challenges related to land allocation. However, he said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has given clear support to tourism projects. The government will prioritize land allotment for tourism, followed by IT projects. He also stressed that providing electricity connections to hotels on priority will speed up development.
Theme Parks to Drive Growth and Jobs
The upcoming Wonderla park in Visakhapatnam and Imagica World in Tirupati are expected to become major tourist attractions. Analysts believe these projects will boost local economies, increase visitor footfall, and create large-scale employment.
With sustained investments and new attractions, Andhra Pradesh aims to position itself as a leading tourism destination in India.
