YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly criticised the state government’s decision to begin the second phase of land acquisition in Amaravati. He described the move as a “crazy decision” and questioned the need for more land when the first phase remains undeveloped.

Speaking to national media at his Tadepalli residence on Thursday, Jagan expressed anger over what he called an irresponsible policy. He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring farmers’ concerns and moving ahead without financial clarity.

Questions Over Unfinished First Phase

Jagan recalled that the government acquired about 50,000 acres during the first phase of land pooling. However, he said the authorities have not developed that land even after several years.

He pointed out that Chandrababu Naidu had earlier stated that nearly ₹1 lakh crore was needed to build roads, power lines, and drainage systems. Jagan questioned where the funds would come from and why the government failed to act so far.

According to him, the government has not fulfilled a single major promise made to farmers. He added that many farmers continue to face serious hardships.

Objections to Second Phase Acquisition

Raising fresh concerns, Jagan questioned the logic behind acquiring another 50,000 acres. He said developing one lakh acres would require nearly ₹2 lakh crore.

He asked how the government plans to raise such a massive amount. He alleged that the second phase serves the interests of Chandrababu Naidu and his alleged benamis.

Allegations of Farmer Exploitation

Jagan accused the government of cheating farmers in the name of capital development. He said officials made big promises but failed to deliver results on the ground.

Finally, he demanded that the government stop the second phase immediately. He urged the authorities to first ensure justice for farmers who gave land in the first phase. The remarks have once again intensified the political debate around Amaravati’s future.
