Yesteryear star heroine Amani, who ruled Telugu cinema in the 1990s, has opened up about a long-standing regret in her career. The actress revealed that not acting alongside Megastar Chiranjeevi remains the biggest pain of her professional life.
Amani made her Tollywood debut with the blockbuster Jambalakidipamba in 1992 and became an overnight sensation. She later delivered memorable performances in films like Mr. Pellam, Shubhalagnam, Mavichiguru, and Shubha Sankalpam. Her role in Mr. Pellam earned her the prestigious Nandi Award, marking a major milestone in her career. During that era, Amani acted opposite almost all leading heroes. Currently, she continues to impress audiences as a character artist and through television serials.
In a recent interview, Amani spoke emotionally about a missed opportunity. “I feel proud of the films I have done, especially Shubhalagnam and Mr. Pellam. But one pain has stayed with me forever. I could not act with Chiranjeevi,” she said.
The actress revealed that she admired Chiranjeevi from childhood and always dreamed of sharing the screen with him. According to Amani, she received an offer to play the female lead in Rickshawodu, which starred Chiranjeevi. She said the dates were finalized, and she even spoke to the actor just days before the shoot.
However, things changed unexpectedly. Amani explained that director Kodandarami Reddy was replaced by Kodi Ramakrishna. Around the same time, reports emerged that actress Nagma was brought into the project. As a result, Amani lost the opportunity.
Expressing her disappointment, she said that missing a film with Chiranjeevi remains an unhealed wound. “That pain will stay with me for the rest of my life,” Amani concluded.
