New Government-Backed Ride-Hailing Platform

Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially launched the Bharat Taxi app, a government-backed ride-hailing platform designed by the Union Ministry of Cooperation. The app aims to compete with private services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido by offering drivers and passengers a more transparent, fair, and secure service.

Zero Commission Model for Drivers

Unlike private competitors that charge high commissions, Bharat Taxi operates under a zero commission policy. This ensures that the total fare paid by the customer goes directly to the driver without any deductions. Consequently, drivers can earn more per ride, boosting their income and financial security.

No Surge Pricing for Passengers

In addition, Bharat Taxi eliminates surge pricing. This means users will not face higher charges during peak hours or busy periods. By removing unpredictable costs, the app aims to provide an affordable and consistent ride experience for passengers across cities.

Driver Welfare and Social Security

The platform also focuses on driver welfare through the Sarathi scheme. Under this initiative, drivers receive health insurance, accident insurance, and retirement savings benefits. This step ensures long-term financial stability and encourages more people to join the platform as professional drivers.

Pilot Launch and Nationwide Expansion

Bharat Taxi initially launched on a pilot basis in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat in December 2025. The government plans to expand to major cities like Hyderabad soon. The ultimate goal is to operate nationwide—from Kashmir to Kanyakumari—within the next three years, offering cars, autos, and bike taxis through a single platform.

Early Success and Engagement

The app has already gained significant traction. Currently, 3 lakh drivers have joined, and 1 lakh users are registered. On average, 10,000 rides are completed daily. According to government reports, drivers have earned approximately ₹10 crore in profits through the platform so far, demonstrating the initiative’s potential to transform the ride-hailing ecosystem.

A Step Towards Fair and Transparent Ride-Hailing

Bharat Taxi represents a major push toward equitable, driver-friendly, and cost-effective mobility solutions. With its zero commission model, surge-free pricing, and robust driver welfare programs, the app sets a new benchmark for public transportation services in India. Passengers benefit from fair pricing, while drivers gain financial security and social protections, a balance that private competitors have often struggled to maintain.
