Incident Sparks Tension in Karnataka Village
Koppal, Karnataka – A disturbing incident in Koppal district left a young Hindu man, Venkatesh, attacked by a mob after a communal misunderstanding. The attack occurred when a routine neighbourly interaction was misinterpreted, sparking tension in the village.
How the Conflict Began
Venkatesh has shared a close friendship with his neighbour, Azir, for over 15 years. The situation escalated when Azir had a domestic dispute with his wife, Afiya, who left home for the bus stand with their children. Concerned, Azir asked Venkatesh to persuade Afiya to return home.
While Venkatesh spoke with Afiya, a group of local Muslim youths misinterpreted their conversation. Despite his explanation that he acted at Azir’s request and that they were longtime neighbours, the group attacked him. During the assault, they stole his money and mobile phone.
Video of Attack Sparks Outrage
The attack video surfaced on social media, showing Venkatesh pleading with the mob to leave him alone. The clip quickly went viral, fueling communal tension in the village. Residents demanded justice for Venkatesh, while supporters of the attackers protested outside the police station.
Police Response and Actions Taken
Authorities acted swiftly to control the situation. Following Venkatesh’s complaint:
Police arrested four individuals in connection with the assault.
They confirmed that the attack occurred due to suspicion, and no misconduct had taken place between Venkatesh and Afiya.
Police deployed heavy security in the area to prevent further clashes and maintain law and order.
