Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government is stepping up efforts to improve education for BC students. Minister for BC Welfare, S. Savitha, announced the launch of ten new MJP BC Gurukula schools. Moreover, the government will upgrade six existing Gurukulas into junior colleges. She emphasised that during the previous YSRCP rule, BC hostels and Gurukulas faced severe neglect, leaving essential repairs incomplete.
Renovations and Facility Upgrades
To address these issues, the government cleared pending diet bills and carried out major repairs in BC hostels. Furthermore, authorities invested ₹14.56 crore to build 971 new toilets. They installed UPS and inverters worth ₹20 crore to ensure uninterrupted electricity in 891 hostels. In addition, RO plants costing ₹16.85 crore will become operational in 814 hostels by May. The government now tests drinking water every 15 days through the Jala Mitra app, ensuring safe water for students.
Prioritising Student Welfare
The coalition government focuses on BC students’ welfare. Authorities repaired 397 hostels, supplied kitchen equipment, and provided essential materials. Moreover, they launched health service modules to monitor menu quality and hygiene in hostels and Gurukulas. By combining these improvements, the government guarantees clean, safe, and well-maintained learning environments.
Correcting Past Neglect
Minister Savitha criticised the previous government for ignoring BC hostels. Many Gurukulas built between 2014 and 2019 remained in poor condition. For example, in Pulivendula, the BC girls’ Gurukula remained incomplete. However, the coalition government resumed construction, and the Pulivendula Gurukula is scheduled to open by June under the Chief Minister’s supervision.
New Schools and Junior College Upgrades
The government allocated ₹500 crore to build ten new MJP Gurukula schools. Additionally, six Gurukulas will upgrade to junior colleges to meet student needs. By implementing these initiatives, the government ensures BC students receive nutritious meals, modern hostels, and quality education. Consequently, these steps promote better academic outcomes and demonstrate the administration’s dedication to BC welfare.
Through new school construction, hostel renovations, and active monitoring, the Andhra Pradesh government strengthens educational and living conditions for BC students. Overall, these actions reflect a committed, transparent, and student-focused approach to welfare.
