In a bizarre real-life case from Bhopal, a wife “sold” her husband to his girlfriend for ₹1.5 crore, in a story that feels straight out of a movie. The unusual settlement, finalised with the intervention of the family court, ended a 23-year marriage and left many people shocked.
The couple, married for 23 years and parents to two daughters, had been facing turmoil for several years. The 42-year-old husband reportedly engaged in an extramarital affair with a 54-year-old colleague. Over time, his relationship with the colleague took precedence, and he began neglecting his wife and daughters.
Seeking legal intervention, the wife filed a petition in the Bhopal Family Court. The court called all three parties—the husband, the wife, and the girlfriend—for counselling to resolve the dispute. During the sessions, the husband openly stated that he wanted to continue his relationship with his girlfriend.
In response, the wife proposed an unusual demand: she asked for ₹1.5 crore as a settlement to legally give up her husband. Surprisingly, the girlfriend agreed to this arrangement. The settlement terms included ₹27 lakh in cash and a duplex house for the wife, ensuring her financial security.
Following the agreement, the wife is preparing to move into the new home with her two daughters. The family court witnessed the settlement, making it official. This extraordinary resolution effectively concluded the 23-year marriage, allowing all parties to move on in their respective lives.
Legal experts note that while such settlements are extremely rare, they highlight the importance of financial security and legal frameworks in resolving long-standing marital disputes. Netizens have expressed mixed reactions, with some calling it pragmatic and others describing it as bizarre.
Ultimately, this unusual Bhopal case has captured national attention, reminding everyone that reality can sometimes be stranger than fiction.
