Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh’s latest action thriller Dhurandhar continues to dominate the box office, but a recent remark by actor Hrithik Roshan has triggered a heated debate on social media. Although Hrithik appreciated the film’s storytelling and performances, his disagreement with the political elements shown in it has sparked strong reactions online.
Hrithik Praises the Film but Objects to Its Political Angle
Speaking about Dhurandhar, Hrithik said he thoroughly enjoyed the film and admired the team’s effort in presenting such a powerful story.
“I really liked Dhurandhar. My compliments to the entire team for delivering such a strong narrative. The way they crafted the story and the emotional depth they brought to it is remarkable. However, I do not agree with the political themes shown in the film. Maybe the filmmakers felt responsible to bring certain issues forward, and that could be why they presented it that way. As an artist, I enjoyed the film and learned a lot from it,” he said.
While Hrithik attempted to balance praise with personal opinion, the second half of his statement has now become the center of controversy.
Netizens Slam Hrithik for “Not Accepting Reality”
His comments on the political elements in the film have not gone well with many social media users.
Netizens questioned why he disagreed with the portrayal of Pakistan-backed terrorism shown in the film. They argued that Dhurandhar depicted the brutality of cross-border terrorist attacks with realistic detail and accused Hrithik of dismissing those realities by calling them “political.” Many users criticized him for mixing national security issues with politics.
Several posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram also questioned whether celebrities should remain neutral when films portray real-world threats faced by the country.
‘Dhurandhar’ Continues its Blockbuster Run
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna, is racing ahead at the box office. Released on December 5, the action thriller has already collected over Rs 180 crore worldwide.
Trade analysts predict that the film will easily enter the Rs 200-crore club within this week. Strong word-of-mouth, high-octane performances, and patriotic themes are driving repeat audiences to theatres.
Despite the controversy, the film’s momentum remains unaffected, and industry experts expect it to remain strong for the coming weeks as well.
