A tragic road accident occurred in the early this morning in Karnataka, claiming at least 13 lives. A private travel bus traveling from Bengaluru to Gokarna caught fire after a head-on collision with a truck near Gorlattu village, close to Hiriyur, on the Hebbuli Highway.
The accident took place around 3 am, when the bus was carrying nearly 30 passengers. According to preliminary reports, most passengers were asleep at the time of the collision, leaving them little chance to escape. The truck reportedly came from the opposite direction and rammed into the bus with great force.
Immediately after the impact, flames engulfed the bus. The fire spread rapidly within minutes, completely gutting the vehicle. At least 13 passengers were trapped inside and were burned alive, officials said. The intensity of the fire reduced the bus to ashes.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot after receiving information and managed to douse the flames. Police teams also reached the scene and began rescue and relief operations. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise, as several passengers are believed to have been inside the bus during the blaze.
Officials stated that identifying the victims has become a major challenge, as many bodies were charred beyond recognition. Rescue operations are still underway, and further details are awaited. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
