A goods train travelling from Delhi to Renigunta derailed near Kavali railway station in Nellore district, causing temporary disruption to rail services on the busy route. Two wagons of the goods train slipped off the tracks, resulting in damage to a portion of the railway line.
According to railway officials, the incident occurred close to Kavali station limits. Soon after receiving the alert, senior railway officers and technical staff rushed to the spot. They immediately began assessing the damage and initiated restoration work without delay.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the derailment affected the railway track, forcing authorities to regulate train movement on the section. As a result, several passenger and express trains experienced minor delays.
Restoration Work in Progress
Railway officials stated that restoration works are being carried out on a war footing. Heavy machinery and maintenance teams were deployed to clear the derailed wagons and repair the damaged track. Officials said their priority is to restore normal rail traffic as quickly as possible while ensuring safety standards.
Meanwhile, railway staff are continuously monitoring the situation. Engineers are inspecting the track and signalling systems to prevent any further complications. Authorities expect to resume full operations once the repair work is completed and safety checks are cleared.
Train Services Affected
Due to the derailment, a few trains operating on the Vijayawada–Chennai section faced brief interruptions. Some services were delayed, while others were regulated until the track becomes fully operational. Railway officials advised passengers to check live train status updates before starting their journey.
Despite the disruption, officials assured passengers that the situation remains under control. They added that coordination between different railway departments helped in responding swiftly to the incident.
Safety Review Ordered
Following the derailment, railway authorities ordered a detailed inquiry to identify the cause. Officials will examine technical factors and track conditions to prevent similar incidents in the future. Regular maintenance and safety audits, they said, remain a top priority.
Overall, the quick response by railway officials helped limit the impact of the derailment. Normal train operations are expected to resume fully once restoration work is completed, bringing relief to passengers travelling through the Kavali section.
