The Andhra Pradesh government will use its mineral resources to strengthen the state’s economy, Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra said in the Assembly. He stressed that proper planning and scientific management can transform coastal wealth into long-term development.
During Question Hour, Gundu Shankar Rao, MLA from Srikakulam, asked about the state’s mineral potential. In response, the minister highlighted the vast resources along the 970-kilometre coastline, including the North Coastal Andhra region.
He said the coastline holds significant beach sand mineral deposits. These minerals can play a key role in economic progress if the government manages them effectively.
Referring to data from the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, the minister said the state has identified eight beach sand mineral zones. These zones cover 7,762 hectares. Officials estimate the reserves at around 102 million tonnes.
Kollu Ravindra said the government has begun preparing clear plans to utilise these minerals. The state aims to increase revenue and create job opportunities for local youth. He added that mineral-based industries can boost development in coastal districts.
The minister also assured that the government will follow transparent and regulated mining practices. He said sustainable development remains a top priority. By using mineral wealth wisely, Andhra Pradesh can move toward becoming one of the leading states in economic growth.
