The coalition government has honoured Indian cricketer Sricharani with a cash reward of Rs 2.5 crore for her outstanding performance in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Minister Nara Lokesh personally presented the cheque to the young cricketer at his Undavalli residence on Tuesday.
Sricharani, who hails from Kadapa district, played a crucial role in India’s successful World Cup campaign. With her consistent performances and match-winning contributions, she emerged as one of the key players of the tournament. As a result, the state government decided to recognise her achievement with a major incentive.
Recognition for Sporting Excellence
Speaking on the occasion, Nara Lokesh praised Sricharani’s dedication and hard work. He said her success has brought pride not only to Andhra Pradesh but also to the entire nation. Moreover, he described her journey as an inspiration for young girls aspiring to build a career in sports.
In addition to the cash reward, the coalition government also announced the allocation of a 500-square-yard house site in Visakhapatnam to Sricharani. This, officials said, reflects the government’s strong commitment to encouraging sporting talent in the state.
Government Support for Athletes
Furthermore, Lokesh reiterated that the government will continue to support athletes who excel at national and international levels. He noted that such recognitions motivate sportspersons to perform better and aim for global success.
Sricharani, meanwhile, expressed her gratitude to the state government for the honour. She thanked Chief Minister and coalition leaders for standing by athletes and providing encouragement at every stage. She added that the reward would inspire her to work harder and bring more laurels to the country.
Inspiration for Young Players
Officials believe that this recognition will inspire aspiring cricketers, especially women players from rural areas. Overall, the government’s gesture has received widespread appreciation, highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s growing focus on sports development and talent promotion.
