New Rules 2026: The New Year will bring more than just a date change. From January 1, 2026, several new government rules will directly affect banking, ration cards, gas prices, salaries, education, and digital payments. These changes will impact common citizens, farmers, employees, and students alike. Here are the 10 key updates you must know.

1. Ration Card Services Go Fully Online

From 2026, people can apply for new ration cards or make corrections online. There will be no need to visit MRO offices. This move will benefit rural residents the most.

2. Farmer ID Mandatory for PM Kisan

Farmers will receive PM Kisan Samman Nidhi funds only if they have a Farmer ID. Crop insurance will also cover wildlife damage, but farmers must report losses within 72 hours.

3. Faster CIBIL Score Updates

Loan applicants will get faster relief. From April 2026, CIBIL scores will update within 7 days, instead of 15 days.

4. Possible Relief in Gas and Fuel Prices

The government plans tax changes to reduce prices of LPG, CNG, and PNG, offering relief to households and vehicle owners.

5. Big Salary Hike for Central Employees

The 8th Pay Commission may come into effect from January 2026. Central employees and pensioners can expect higher salaries and pensions, along with arrears if delayed.

6. PAN–Aadhaar Linking Mandatory

PAN cards not linked with Aadhaar may become inactive after January 1, 2026. This can affect banking and income tax filing.

7. Social Media Rules for Children

The government will restrict social media use for children under 16 years, aiming to protect their mental health.

8. Small Investments in Real Estate

People can invest small amounts in real estate through REITs, similar to mutual funds.

9. Digital Attendance in Government Schools

Teachers’ attendance will be tracked through tablets to ensure transparency and accountability.

10. Stronger Digital Payment Security

Banks will introduce extra security layers, including OTP verification for high-value transactions, to prevent online fraud.
