Pawan Kalyan Sparks Controversy with “Dishti” Comments
Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, has recently stirred a major controversy in Telangana with his remarks about “dishti” (evil eye). During the Palle Panduga 2.0 event organized by the Andhra Pradesh government, he visited Rajolu in Godavari district to interact with local farmers. He also met coconut farmers in Konaseema and expressed concern over their drying coconut trees.
Pawan remarked that the greenery of Konaseema districts contributed to the state’s separation. He further stated that Telangana leaders often boast about lush coconut trees, but due to “dishti,” many of the trees have turned barren. Drawing an analogy, he said even black stones crack under intense dishti, implying that Konaseema’s coconut trees suffered similarly. His comments have angered Telangana politicians.

Telangana Leaders Respond Sharply
Telangana leaders reacted strongly to Pawan Kalyan’s statements. Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy warned that unless Pawan apologizes immediately for the “dishti” comments, his films would not be screened in Telangana. He added that the remarks were deeply hurtful to the people of the state.
Similarly, TRS MLA Jagadish Reddy countered the claims, questioning how Pawan Kalyan could suggest that Telangana’s coconut trees had dishti. He argued that people from Andhra Pradesh travel to Hyderabad, not the other way around, and accused AP leaders of spreading false claims. He also criticized Pawan for speaking without considering the consequences, despite holding the positions of CM and Deputy CM.
Congress MLA Joins the Debate
Adding to the controversy, Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy gave a strong response to Pawan Kalyan. He claimed that any so-called dishti affecting Hyderabad came from AP leaders, not Telangana. He further criticized Pawan for stating that the coconut groves and green crops in Konaseema were under dishti, calling it an inappropriate justification.
Anirudh also questioned why Pawan Kalyan continues to release films in Telangana despite making such statements. The controversy escalated as Telangana leaders held multiple press meets, issuing warnings. However, neither Pawan Kalyan nor the Jana Sena Party has officially responded to these statements so far.
Political Tension Continues
The remarks have sparked a heated debate between Andhra and Telangana political circles. The issue highlights the sensitivity surrounding cultural pride, state identity, and cinema in regional politics. Pawan Kalyan’s comments and Telangana leaders’ strong reactions suggest that tensions may continue unless an official clarification or apology is issued.
Fans of Pawan Kalyan and cinema-goers in both states are now waiting to see whether the actor addresses the controversy or if political pressure will affect the release of his films in Telangana.
