Toronto police are investigating the brutal murder of Himanshi Khurana (30), an Indian-origin woman who had moved to Canada for work. The crime has triggered a nationwide manhunt for the prime suspect.
Missing Complaint Leads to Shocking Discovery
On Friday night, December 19, Himanshi’s acquaintances reported her missing. Soon after, police launched an immediate search. Early the next morning, officers found her body inside a residence near Strachan Avenue.
Investigators confirmed that the case involves homicide. Based on preliminary findings, police suspect intimate partner violence, pointing to a crime committed by someone close to the victim.
Known Associate Named Prime Accused
Police identified Abdul Gapoory (32) as the main suspect in the case. According to investigators, the accused had a prior relationship with Himanshi. Consequently, authorities registered a case under first-degree murder.
Police issued a nationwide arrest warrant and intensified efforts to trace the suspect. If convicted, Abdul Gapoory could face life imprisonment without parole. At present, he remains on the run.
Indian Consulate Expresses Shock
Meanwhile, the Indian Consulate in Toronto expressed deep shock over the incident. Through a social media statement, the consulate said the murder of Indian national Himanshi Khurana deeply saddened them.
The statement added that officials remain in constant contact with Canadian authorities. In addition, the consulate assured full support to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
