Despite being one of the biggest stars in world cricket, Afghanistan’s ace spinner Rashid Khan lives under constant fear in his home country. The global cricket icon has revealed that he cannot move freely on the streets of Kabul and must travel in a bulletproof car for safety reasons.
Rashid made these revelations during a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen. When asked whether he could roam around Kabul like a normal person, Rashid gave a blunt reply: “No.” He went on to explain that security concerns force him to use a bulletproof vehicle at all times.
“I have a bulletproof car,” Rashid said, leaving Pietersen visibly surprised. Clarifying further, the Afghan star added that it was not about luxury but survival. “It’s for security reasons. Not being at the wrong place at the wrong time. This is very common in Afghanistan,” he explained.
Rashid said such precautions are a part of daily life in his country due to ongoing political instability and security threats. He noted that living under constant alert has become normal for many Afghans, including himself.
Having gained worldwide recognition through leagues such as the IPL and Big Bash League, Rashid is among the most recognizable faces in Afghanistan. This fame, he admitted, has also made him a high-risk target.
Despite these challenges, Rashid Khan said he remains extremely proud to represent Afghanistan on the global stage. He emphasized that wearing the national jersey gives him immense satisfaction, even as he continues to live with strict security restrictions at home.
Rashid’s candid remarks highlight the harsh realities faced by athletes in conflict-affected regions, reminding fans that global fame does not always guarantee a life of freedom or safety.
