Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has secured another major investment in the renewable energy sector. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) will invest Rs 6,675 crore to set up a 10 gigawatt ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Nellore district. As a result, the state will strengthen its position in clean energy manufacturing.
State Investment Council Clears the Project
The State Investment Promotion Council, chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, approved the project at its recent meeting. The factory will come up in the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone. Moreover, the state government has allotted 200 acres of land for the project.
In the first phase, the company will use 120 acres. Meanwhile, the remaining 80 acres will support future expansion. Therefore, the project has clear long-term growth plans.
Major Boost to Solar Manufacturing
Ingots and wafers are essential for making solar cells and modules. In addition, they also support semiconductor manufacturing. With this facility, domestic production will increase. As a result, dependence on imports will reduce significantly.
TPREL also plans to set up a 200 MW green power plant. This plant will supply clean energy to the factory. Consequently, the project will operate with a strong sustainability focus.
Employment Opportunities and Economic Impact
The new facility will create direct jobs for nearly 1,000 people. Moreover, it will generate indirect employment in allied industries. Therefore, the Nellore region will see fresh economic activity.
Nara Lokesh Welcomes the Investment
State IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed the Tata Group’s decision. He said the investment reflects strong confidence in Andhra Pradesh.
“This historic project shows faith in our governance and infrastructure. Furthermore, it highlights our commitment to clean energy manufacturing,” Lokesh said. He also added that the project will deliver quality jobs to local youth.
Nellore Set to Become Solar Manufacturing Hub
Officials said several factors helped attract the investment. These include ready industrial land, strong infrastructure, and excellent port connectivity. As a result, Nellore is emerging as a key solar manufacturing hub.
With this project, Andhra Pradesh expects more renewable energy investments in the coming years. Ultimately, the state aims to support India’s clean energy goals while boosting industrial growth.
