The Telangana government is set to transform digital connectivity across the state. Through the ambitious T-Fiber project, it plans to deliver high-speed internet to every corner of Telangana.
Earlier, the government relied mainly on optical fiber cables. However, geographical challenges limited coverage in several regions. Therefore, officials are now expanding the project using wireless 5G and satellite technology.
Internet Access for 690 Remote Villages
The state has identified 690 villages where cable-based internet cannot reach. These villages lie mostly in forest and mining areas. As a result, the government has started talks with Elon Musk’s Starlink to provide satellite-based internet services.
Meanwhile, T-Fiber officials have already held multiple meetings with Starlink representatives. If both sides finalize the agreement, high-speed internet will soon reach tribal and agency areas.
First Rural Wireless 5G Pilot in India
At the same time, Telangana is preparing to launch India’s first rural wireless 5G pilot project. The government has selected Ramakrishnapuram village in the Madhira constituency of Khammam district for this initiative.
Earlier, authorities successfully tested this technology at NIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. Therefore, they decided to extend it to rural areas. The IT department plans to launch the project as a Sankranti gift to villagers.
How the Wireless System Works
The project uses a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) system with support from IIT Hyderabad. First, a main antenna at the Khammam Collectorate will transmit signals to the village center. Then, WiFi-7 routers installed on electricity poles will distribute internet across the village.
Moreover, engineers designed the system to withstand storms and natural disasters. As a result, connectivity will remain stable during emergencies.
Statewide Expansion by 2026
Finally, the Telangana government aims to expand wireless 5G services across the state by 2026. With this move, Telangana hopes to set a national example in rural digital development.
