Pen Swallowed During School Bet Shocks Doctors
A shocking incident has come to light from Guntur district, where a first-year intermediate student risked his life over a small bet with friends. The student swallowed a pen during a Rs 50 bet while studying in Class 9. The pen remained stuck in his stomach for nearly three years.
Severe Pain Leads to Hospitalisation
The student, identified as Muralikrishna, is the son of Srinivasa Rao and Lakshmi Sujatha from Kothapet, Guntur. Although he swallowed the pen three years ago, he did not face major health issues initially. However, he recently began suffering from severe stomach pain.
For almost a year, he managed the pain with medicines. Meanwhile, he hid the incident from his parents due to fear. On December 18, the pain became unbearable. At that point, his friends informed his parents about the incident.
Doctors Discover Pen in Large Intestine
The parents immediately rushed Muralikrishna to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH). Doctors conducted a CT scan and discovered that the pen was lodged in the large intestine. Usually, such cases require surgery.
Advanced Procedure Saves Student’s Life
However, doctors from the gastroenterology department opted for a modern, non-surgical method. Using retrograde enteroscopy with an overtube, they successfully removed the pen without making any incision.
The complex procedure saved the student’s life and prevented major complications. After the extraction, Muralikrishna’s condition improved, and he is now recovering well.
Hospital Applauds Medical Team
The GGH Superintendent congratulated the medical team for performing the rare and risky procedure efficiently. Doctors also advised students and parents to take such incidents seriously and avoid dangerous bets or dares.
This incident serves as a strong warning about the risks of careless behavior and peer pressure among students.
