The Tirupati district police have introduced a new road safety initiative titled “No Helmet, No Petrol” to reduce two-wheeler accidents and improve public awareness. The rule came into effect on December 15 across the district.
Strict Implementation at Petrol Pumps
Police have installed “No Helmet, No Petrol” banners at all petrol stations in Tirupati district. Authorities deployed special staff at fuel outlets to ensure strict enforcement. Petrol pumps now deny fuel to riders who do not wear helmets.
Officials clarified that the policy promotes responsibility, not punishment.
Rising Two-Wheeler Accident Concerns
According to police data, 45 percent of road accidents in Tirupati district involve two-wheelers. This rising number pushed authorities to enforce helmet usage more firmly at the ground level.
Police officers actively turn back riders without helmets and advise them to follow safety rules.
Awareness Drive and Bike Rally
The police department has conducted helmet awareness campaigns for the past 20 days. To strengthen the initiative, District SP Subbarayudu led a large bike rally on December 14.
He rode along with police personnel while wearing a helmet and sent a strong message that helmet rules apply to everyone. He urged riders to treat helmet use as a responsibility toward their families.
Lessons From Past Enforcement Failures
Earlier attempts to enforce compulsory helmet use in Tirupati failed due to poor follow-up. In the past, some riders avoided helmets citing concerns related to the city’s spiritual identity and fear of chain snatching.
Officials believe the current leadership and structured planning will deliver better results this time.
CM Chandrababu Naidu Praises Initiative
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu praised the Tirupati police for launching the initiative. In a post on X, he said the move would help prevent road accidents and save lives.
The Chief Minister called the “No Helmet, No Petrol” rule a practical idea. He also appreciated the helmet awareness bike rally involving nearly 700 participants.
Strong Message From District Administration
CM Naidu noted that the participation of District Collector Venkateswar and SP Subbarayudu in the rally sent a powerful message. He urged citizens to follow safety rules and government guidelines for their own protection.
