A major road accident occurred on the Delhi–Agra Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, leaving four people dead and more than 25 others injured in the early hours of the day. Dense fog drastically reduced visibility, triggering a multi-vehicle collision involving six buses and two cars. The tragic incident once again highlighted the dangers of winter travel on high-speed corridors.
According to police officials, the accident took place around 2 a.m. near the Mathura district on the Agra–Noida stretch of the expressway. Thick fog blanketed the area, making it nearly impossible for drivers to spot vehicles ahead. As a result, several vehicles crashed into one another at high speed, leading to a massive pile-up.
The force of the collision caused fires to break out in multiple vehicles, trapping passengers inside and sparking panic at the scene. Eyewitnesses said flames spread rapidly, while cries for help echoed across the expressway. Many passengers struggled to escape as smoke filled the vehicles, complicating rescue efforts during the critical initial minutes.
After receiving information, police teams, fire services, and ambulances rushed to the accident site. Firefighters managed to control the blaze after intense efforts, while rescue personnel pulled injured passengers from damaged vehicles. Emergency teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where doctors said the condition of several victims remains critical.
The accident led to hours-long traffic congestion on the Yamuna Expressway, severely affecting commuters traveling between Delhi and Agra. Authorities diverted traffic and worked continuously to remove damaged vehicles and debris to restore normal movement.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that dense fog and poor visibility were the primary causes of the crash. Officials have urged motorists to drive cautiously during foggy conditions and adhere to speed limits to avoid such tragedies in the future.
