The coalition government led by N. Chandrababu Naidu has shifted its focus to organising the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu on a massive scale across Andhra Pradesh. After drawing praise for hosting Vijayawada Dasara celebrations in a Mysore-style format last year, the government is now preparing to conduct the Pushkaralu in a grand manner similar to the Kumbh Mela. Officials expect record participation and have begun early arrangements to ensure smooth management.
The Godavari Pushkaralu will be held from June 26 to July 7, 2027, for 12 days. The state plans to organise the event across six districts with elaborate infrastructure, security, and temple development works. A Cabinet Sub-Committee chaired by Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy recently met and finalised several key decisions regarding preparations.
Grand Plans Across Six Districts
The government estimates that nearly 8 to 10 crore devotees may attend the sacred event. Therefore, authorities have started large-scale arrangements in Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Kakinada, and Polavaram districts.
At present, 234 bathing ghats exist along the river. However, the committee has approved the construction of additional facilities to increase the total number to 369 ghats. This expansion aims to manage the heavy rush expected during peak bathing days.
Focus on Infrastructure and Safety
To improve pilgrim convenience, the government will establish tent cities and homestays at affordable prices. Additionally, officials will strengthen sanitation systems, drinking water supply, and road connectivity near major ghats.
Since nearly one crore devotees may gather on the main bathing days, the administration has prioritised security arrangements. The sub-committee decided to appoint special nodal officers to coordinate between departments and ensure seamless execution.
Temple Renovation and Budget Allocation
The government has also emphasised temple development along the Godavari river belt. It plans to undertake renovation works in 391 temples and reconstruction in 43 temples located near the riverbanks.
To kickstart preparations, the coalition government has allocated ₹60 crore in the budget. Officials believe early planning will help deliver a well-organised and spiritually enriching Pushkaralu in 2027.
Earlier, the Vijayawada Dasara celebrations at Kanaka Durga Temple earned widespread appreciation and even secured a place in the Guinness World Records. Building on that success, the government now aims to make Godavari Pushkaralu 2027 a landmark spiritual event in Andhra Pradesh.
