Prominent speaker Garikipati Narasimha Rao has stirred debate with his remarks on renaming Andhra Pradesh. He stated that the name “Andhra Pradesh” is not rooted in the Telugu language and resembles names like Uttar Pradesh. According to him, the state’s current name lacks a distinct Telugu identity.
Garikipati emphasised that the state should be called “Telugunadu” to reflect its language and culture. He recalled that former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao had also attempted to rename the state in the past. The speaker added that if people showed the same determination as Kerala residents, it could change the course of the region’s identity.
He insisted that state names should reflect linguistic heritage and preserve regional identity. Garikipati’s comments highlight the ongoing discussion about strengthening Telugu pride through the state’s official name.
