A shocking murder case has come to light in Ramanathapuram district after police revealed that the death of 27-year-old Sasikala, initially reported as suicide, was in fact a planned murder. The incident, which also led to the subsequent suicide of her former lover Pandi, has taken a dramatic turn following a detailed investigation led by district police officials.
Sasikala, a resident of Nagachi near Uchipuli, had been in a relationship with Pandi, 28, for several years. Pandi ran a travel business in Rameswaram. Although the couple wished to marry, family opposition prevented their union. Later, Sasikala married her relative Murugan about five years ago, and the couple has a four-year-old daughter.
However, reports suggest that Sasikala continued to stay in touch with Pandi even after her marriage. At one point, she left her home, and police intervened with counselling before sending her back to her husband.
On January 17, Sasikala was found hanging in her house, and authorities initially treated the case as suicide. After hearing about her death, Pandi, who was in Bengaluru at the time, allegedly ended his life near Dharmapuri, unable to cope with the news. The case first appeared to be a tragic double suicide.
However, the investigation took a sharp turn after the Superintendent of Police received confidential information. During questioning, police uncovered startling facts. Sasikala’s brother Ajith, who works abroad, had secretly returned to Madurai before the incident. On the night of January 17, he reportedly confronted his sister and warned her to end her relationship with Pandi.
When an argument escalated, Ajith allegedly strangled Sasikala in a fit of anger. Later, he staged the scene to resemble suicide and fled the country. Investigators also revealed that Murugan and Ajith’s friends Dinesh and Rajesh helped execute the plan.
Police have arrested Murugan and Dinesh, while efforts are underway to bring Ajith back from abroad. Authorities continue to search for Rajesh, who remains absconding.
This heartbreaking case highlights how suspicion, anger, and concerns over family honour can spiral into irreversible tragedy. It also underscores the importance of dialogue and lawful resolution in personal disputes, as unchecked emotions have now cost two lives.
