The stampede at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s roadshow in Karur has left 41 people dead. This has shocked the State and the nation. A team of doctors appointed by the Tamil Nadu government examined the victims. They released a detailed report on the causes of death, revealing the horrifying nature of the tragedy.
According to the report, many victims suffered extreme pressure on the chest during the stampede. This pressure prevented their lungs from functioning properly. It led to a lack of oxygen supply to the brain, causing death within minutes. Scans also revealed fractures in some victims’ lungs. Additionally, severe pressure reportedly caused bleeding around the heart.
Among the deceased, 18 were women, 13 were men, and 10 were children, including a two-year-old. Many Karur stampede victims also suffered fractures to their ribs and spines, indicating the excruciating pain endured in the final moments. Currently, 59 people are receiving treatment in hospitals following the incident.
The tragedy also sparked questions over why postmortems were conducted at night. The government clarified that as per the 2021 central regulations, postmortems can be conducted at night if there are concerns related to law and order. Authorities and citizens alike have expressed grief. They mourn the loss of so many innocent lives in what was meant to be a political gathering.
